Governor Josh Stein has commented on President Donald Trump's recent visit to Western North Carolina. In a statement, Stein expressed appreciation for the President's decision to make his first trip outside the capital to this region.

Stein stated, "It’s a positive signal that President Trump made his first visit outside the capital as President to our mountains." During the visit, Governor Stein took the opportunity to discuss disaster relief with the President. He said he requested "support of $20 billion in additional disaster relief and for 100% reimbursement of eligible FEMA expenses for another six months."

Highlighting ongoing challenges faced by local communities, Stein remarked, "Families, businesses, and communities are struggling and need these urgent resources to help them rebuild." He emphasized his willingness to collaborate with federal authorities: "I look forward to working with the Trump Administration in the coming weeks and months to get people what they need to rebuild and recover."

The request comes as part of broader efforts by state officials seeking federal assistance in addressing natural disasters' impact on North Carolina.
