Hurricanes prepare for back-to-back games starting with Maple Leafs clash

The Carolina Hurricanes are set to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, January 9, at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and can be watched on ESPN+ and Hulu or listened to on 99.9 The Fan and the Hurricanes App.

The Hurricanes currently hold a record of 24-15-2, placing them third in the Metropolitan Division with 50 points. They recently faced a narrow defeat against the Tampa Bay Lightning, losing 3-2 on Tuesday. Despite their recent loss, Jordan Staal contributed significantly with a goal and an assist.

Toronto arrives in Raleigh with a strong record of 27-13-2, positioning them fourth in the Atlantic Division with 56 points. Their latest victory was a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Andrei Svechnikov ended his nine-game goal drought during Carolina's last game and has accumulated points in three of his last four games. The upcoming match marks another national broadcast for Carolina this season.

As they reach the halfway point of their season, the Hurricanes have maintained competitive statistics across various categories. They lead the league in penalty kills (84.9%) and rank sixth in goals per game (3.34).

In terms of goaltending, Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to start against Toronto following his solid performance against Tampa Bay. Dustin Tokarski may also see action during this back-to-back set.

On Toronto's side, goaltenders Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll have been performing well this season, contributing to their team's success. Mitch Marner leads Toronto with 58 points this season.
