Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour has set a new benchmark in the NHL by achieving his 300th career victory faster than any other coach in the league's history. Brind'Amour reached this milestone in just 488 games, surpassing the previous record held by Bruce Boudreau, who achieved it in 496 games. They are the only two coaches to have reached this mark in fewer than 500 games.
Following Saturday's game, Brind'Amour emphasized the importance of his players' contributions to his success. "Coaching is interesting. You get way too much credit when your team wins, and you just get abused when it doesn't," he said. "It's the group that you have (that makes you successful). I've been blessed, we've talked about it a lot, we've got a really good group."
Brind'Amour boasts a .615 win percentage and is one of only eight coaches since 2000 to secure their first 300 wins with a single franchise.
Some notable moments on Brind'Amour's journey to 300 victories include earning his first head coaching win against Columbus, leading the Hurricanes to their first playoff berth since 2009, winning the Jack Adams Award as NHL's Coach of the Year, and becoming the first coach in Canes/Whalers history to participate in an All-Star game.
The Hurricanes completed the regular season with a record of 52-23-7 during the 2023-24 campaign, marking them as one of six teams ever to achieve three consecutive seasons with at least 50 wins. Additionally, Brind'Amour became just the second head coach in NHL history to win at least one playoff round in each of his first six seasons.
Reflecting on his achievements and future goals, Brind'Amour stated: “There’s still that carrot out there for me to help this organization get to where we need to and help these guys that are in there that all want to do it, too.”
