Luka Slabe, the head volleyball coach at NC State for the past five seasons, has decided to leave collegiate athletics to explore new opportunities. This announcement was made by Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan.
"It was my honor to lead our volleyball team and represent NC State University," said Slabe. "This group has taken many steps forward, reached some milestones, forged unforgettable memories, and, most importantly, brought fans back to Reynolds Coliseum. I am grateful to Boo Corrigan and the Athletic Department for giving me a chance to be part of the Wolfpack Athletics. After the conclusion of the season, my family and I decided to take a different path, stepping away from collegiate athletics and looking for opportunities that would allow us to spend more time together as a family."
Corrigan expressed gratitude for Slabe's contributions: "We are so grateful to Luka and all he has done to raise our volleyball program to new levels. I commend him for making the decision to prioritize his family and want him to know that he will always be a part of the Wolfpack family."
Under Slabe's leadership, NC State concluded its 2024 season with an appearance in the NCAA Volleyball Championship—only the fourth in school history. His tenure saw record attendance at matches, highlighting increased interest in Wolfpack Volleyball.
Slabe became NC State's 10th head coach on February 10, 2020. Before joining NC State, he spent two years with USA Volleyball under Karch Kiraly. During this period, he contributed to the American team's qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where they won their first-ever gold medal in volleyball. He also helped secure a silver medal at the 2019 FIVB World Cup.
