The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Brendan Lemieux on unconditional waivers with the intention of terminating his contract. This decision was made public on Friday.
Lemieux, who is 28 years old, signed a one-year contract valued at $775,000 on March 11, 2024. The request for release came from Lemieux himself. "Brendan asked to be released from his contract so he could pursue a new opportunity," stated Canes General Manager Eric Tulsky in a statement to Hurricanes.com. "We wish him nothing but the best in the next stage of his career."
During his second year with the Hurricanes organization, Lemieux participated in 37 games with the NHL team. He was previously placed on waivers on October 16 and subsequently assigned to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) the following day.
While playing for Chicago in the AHL, Lemieux scored two goals over 12 games.
