Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, has announced the assignment of defenseman Ty Smith to the Chicago Wolves, an affiliate team in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Smith, who is 24 years old, has yet to play in an NHL game this season. He has recorded three assists and a plus-2 rating over four games with the Wolves. The Lloydminster, Alberta native previously played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2023-24 season, where he accumulated 43 points through nine goals and 34 assists in 63 games. Smith was initially drafted by New Jersey as the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Over his career, he has participated in 123 NHL games with both New Jersey and Pittsburgh, earning a total of 47 points from eight goals and 39 assists while accumulating 48 penalty minutes.
