The NC State men's basketball team faced a challenging game against BYU, resulting in a 72-61 defeat at the Rady Children's Invitational in San Diego. The team struggled with shooting, achieving a season-low of 37 percent from the field.

In the first half, NC State shot only 29.6 percent, allowing BYU to secure an 11-point lead by halftime. The second half saw BYU extending their advantage with four early three-pointers, diminishing any chances of a comeback for NC State.

Michael O'Connell and Jayden Taylor were the top scorers for NC State, each contributing 16 points. This performance marked a career-high for O'Connell during his time with NC State. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield led the team in rebounds for the third consecutive game, securing nine rebounds.

Despite winning the turnover battle with a margin of 14-9, NC State could not capitalize on these opportunities as BYU outscored them 12-9 in points off turnovers. Additionally, BYU dominated in rebounding with a 45-32 advantage and outperformed NC State in points in the paint with a score of 30-20.

NC State will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Texas as part of the ACC-SEC Challenge. The game is set to begin at 9:15 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
