New Jersey Devils secured a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, ending the Canes' winning streak. Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes led the Devils with three points each.

Carolina initially took the lead with a goal from Jack Roslovic, but a defensive mistake allowed New Jersey to equalize. Bratt scored first for New Jersey, followed by Stefan Noesen's power-play goal in the second period that put them ahead.

Andrei Svechnikov tied the game early in the third period with a power-play goal. However, Dougie Hamilton's goal midway through the third period gave New Jersey an advantage they maintained until Bratt sealed their win with another goal.

This match marked Carolina's seventh time this season being shorthanded three-on-five, during which they've conceded five goals—more than any other team. Roslovic’s opening goal was his 11th of the season, tying him with Martin Necas for most goals on the team. Necas assisted Svechnikov’s goal after having his 13-game point streak broken earlier against Philadelphia.

Reflecting on the loss, Jordan Staal commented: "(That) 5-on-3, I obviously can't take that penalty (when shorthanded already). It's pretty hard to kill with two less guys... I think we're just losing too many battles and didn't get enough zone time."

Staal further added about their missed opportunities: "We got a little momentum off that big goal from Svechy... penalties just kind of killed our momentum twice."

Coach Rod Brind'Amour noted: "We were good to start the game... The momentum flipped on that, and then 5-on-3, you're giving a goal away."

Andrei Svechnikov mentioned: "I felt like if we get a couple of lucky bounces... it was hard obviously (playing a) back-to-back but it's fine."

The Hurricanes will next face Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Saturday night before returning home to play Dallas Stars on Monday.
