Spencer Martin is set to make his third NHL start of the season for the Carolina Hurricanes as they face off against the New Jersey Devils. The 29-year-old goaltender recently achieved his first NHL shutout, stopping all 24 shots in a game against the Ottawa Senators.
The Hurricanes will maintain the same group of 18 skaters, though adjustments in forward lines are possible. During a recent game in Philadelphia, Jordan Martinook and Andrei Svechnikov switched positions at the start of the third period before the team scored three goals. One of these players is expected to join Sebastian Aho and Jack Roslovic, while the other may skate with William Carrier and Jordan Staal. Staal has been performing well, accumulating seven points over his last seven games.
Jackson Blake, who scored his first NHL goal against New Jersey last month, will also be part of tonight's lineup.
The betting odds provided by Fanatics Sportsbook list the Hurricanes at -110.
Projected lineup includes forwards Martinook/Svechnikov with Aho and Roslovic; Robinson with Kotkaniemi and Necas; Carrier with Staal and Martinook/Svechnikov; Jost with Drury and Blake. Defense pairs are Slavin with Burns; Orlov with Chatfield; Gostisbehere with Walker. Spencer Martin will be starting in goal.
Injuries affecting the team include Frederik Andersen (knee), Jesper Fast (neck), and Seth Jarvis (upper-body). Ty Smith is listed as a scratch.
Power play units feature PP1: Aho, Blake, Necas, Svechnikov with Gostisbehere; PP2: Drury, Kotkaniemi, Roslovic with Burns and Walker.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in New Jersey.
