The North Carolina Republican Party has expressed approval following the successful veto override of House Bill 10. The party's statement emphasized the importance of requiring sheriffs to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), citing concerns about illegal immigration at the Southern border.
"As we have said for months, requiring Sheriffs to cooperate with ICE while over 10 million illegal immigrants have poured across the Southern border is a common sense measure that will immediately make North Carolina communities safer and stronger," stated NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer.
Mercer further commented on the political implications of the override, describing it as a sign that North Carolina is prepared to prioritize policies benefiting families in the state. "The successful override of Lame Duck Gov. Roy Cooper's veto shows our state is ready to move forward and embrace common sense policies that put North Carolina families first, not the liberal special interests."
