The NC State women's soccer team secured a commanding 5-0 victory against VCU on Sunday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia. The Wolfpack, now with a record of 1-2-1, dominated the first half with three goals. Mana Nakata opened the scoring early in the 5th minute with a long-range shot from outside the 18-yard box. Abi Hugh followed up by capitalizing on a loose ball from an NC State corner kick in the 29th minute, making it 2-0 after Taylor Chism's initial shot was rebounded. Annika Wohner scored just before halftime with assistance from Jade Bordeleau.
In the second half, NC State continued their strong performance by adding two more goals within ten minutes. Hannah Jibril scored her first goal of the season in the 49th minute, and Wohner secured her brace with another goal in the 53rd minute.
NC State outshot VCU 18-10 and held an advantage of 11-8 in shots on goal. The Rams were limited to only two shots during the first half. Olivia Pratapas played a key role by preserving the shutout with eight saves, matching her career-high.
This victory marked NC State's first five-goal match since September 9, 2021, against Oklahoma and highlighted Wohner as the first player to score multiple goals since Lulu Guttenberger's double against Miami on October 15, 2022.
The win is also significant for NC State as it represents their 399th win in program history. Head coach Tim Santoro tied Laura Kerrigan for second place for most wins by an NC State women's soccer head coach, each having achieved 87 victories.
Looking ahead, NC State will host Charlotte at Dail Soccer Stadium on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., with live streaming available on ACC Network Extra.
