Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that Weatherby Healthcare, Inc., a medical staffing company, will expand its operations in Wake County by adding 155 jobs and investing over $7.6 million in Raleigh.

“Weatherby has made a great decision to reinvest in North Carolina,” said Governor Cooper. “Wake County sits in the heart of our state and is the home of an international airport and a highly educated workforce, making it an ideal location for corporate businesses.”

Weatherby Healthcare, a subsidiary of CHG Healthcare, has been providing staffing solutions for physicians in rural communities for 45 years. The agency coordinates short-term contracts for healthcare professionals to cover temporary absences at medical facilities. It handles all aspects of physician placement to ensure uninterrupted patient care.

Michael Depaolis, Senior Vice President of Sales for Weatherby, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: “We’re thrilled to partner with the governor’s office on this project, which will not only give our current employees a vibrant, new, state-of-the-art workspace but also allow us to continue to grow and bring more high-paying jobs to the great state of North Carolina.”

N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders commented on North Carolina's appeal: “From manufacturers to corporate headquarters, North Carolina continues to be a top choice for companies that want a low-cost place to do business, great quality of life, and access to top-tier talent as they continue to grow and expand.”

The project is supported by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), approved by the state's Economic Investment Committee. Over 12 years, it is expected to boost the state's economy by $433.5 million. The JDIG agreement allows potential reimbursement up to $1,812,000 based on performance verification.

Due to its location in Wake County (Tier 3), part of Weatherby's JDIG agreement involves moving $604,000 into the Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account. This fund assists rural communities with infrastructure upgrades needed for future business attraction.

“This project is an outstanding win for Wake County,” stated N.C. Senator Lisa Grafstein. “We have an incredible and diverse talent base ready to help the company meet the needs of the demanding healthcare industry.”

N.C. Representative Tim Longest added: “It gives us a great vote of confidence to know that the City of Raleigh was selected for Weatherby’s new home.”

This expansion involved collaboration between several entities including the North Carolina Department of Commerce and various local economic development organizations.
