NC State men's soccer secured its second win on Sunday afternoon against Florida Gulf Coast with a late goal, concluding the opening weekend of the regular season with a perfect record.
Both matches, Thursday night against High Point and Sunday evening against Florida Gulf Coast, were decided in the final minutes. NC State outshot Florida Gulf Coast in both halves, recording nearly double the shot attempts over their opponents. Taig Healy and Hakim Karamoko led the team with four shots each, followed by Junior Nare with three attempts. Twelve members of the Pack recorded shot attempts, eight of whom had competitive shots on goal.
The second half saw numerous yellow cards and a red card issued to the Eagles, providing NC State several opportunities from free-kicks. A yellow card inside the box in the final minutes gave NC State a penalty kick opportunity. Will Buete, captain for the game, converted the penalty kick to secure the victory, adding to his season goal tally after scoring in the previous game.
Logan Erb marked his first game as goalkeeper for NC State, making two saves to ensure a shutout for the Wolfpack.
Next up, NC State will travel to James Madison on Saturday for their first away match.
