Today, Governor Roy Cooper signed a proclamation for Enrollment Assisters Appreciation Week in North Carolina to honor the dedication and hard work of enrollment assisters in helping individuals apply for health coverage across the state. The proclamation comes as a recognition of the pivotal role played by these assisters in facilitating access to healthcare during a momentous period for health coverage in North Carolina.

Enrollment assisters, such as the North Carolina Navigators Consortium and Care Share Health Alliance, have been instrumental in the successful implementation of Medicaid expansion in North Carolina, which has made over 600,000 individuals newly eligible for essential healthcare services. Governor Cooper acknowledged the significant impact of these assisters, stating, "Enrollment assisters are on the front lines sharing information with people in their communities and helping them get signed up for the best care possible."

North Carolina saw a surge in enrollments in the Federally Facilitated Marketplace, with more than a million people enrolling for health coverage through healthcare.gov during the open enrollment period. This success can be attributed to the dedicated efforts of enrollment assisters who have been working tirelessly to ensure that individuals receive the care they need.

NC Health and Human Services Secretary Kody H. Kinsley emphasized the importance of enrollment assisters in connecting people with the healthcare they deserve, stating, "Our goal is simple, get people covered and get people connected to the care they deserve. We are grateful to enrollment assisters on the ground statewide, including rural communities providing critical information to people who are newly qualified and getting them enrolled in care."

Enrollment assisters, including Navigators and Certified Application Counselors, offer free and impartial assistance to help individuals access quality and affordable health coverage, including NC Medicaid and Marketplace coverage. Their efforts have already resulted in over 424,000 people enrolling for healthcare since December 1, with more than 832,000 paid pharmacy prescription drug claims for critical health needs.

As North Carolina continues its commitment to expanding healthcare access, enrollment assisters remain at the forefront of ensuring that individuals are enrolled in care promptly and efficiently. Their dedication and hard work are integral to building a healthier North Carolina for all.
