As Tax Day nears, the North Carolina Department of Justice is warning consumers about the looming threat of tax scammers. In a recent statement, the department emphasized the importance of vigilance when dealing with tax-related matters.
"Filing your taxes can be stressful, and it is easy to let the situation get the best of you. If you are unsure about something or something doesn’t feel right, always make sure to do your research first," advised the department.
The department also provided guidance on how to handle suspected tax scams, urging individuals to take action if they believe they have fallen victim to fraudulent activity. "If you believe you have been the victim of a tax scam, contact our office at 1-877-5-NOSCAM or file a complaint online at www.ncdoj.gov/complaint."
