Governor Roy Cooper has made an announcement regarding the appointment of two individuals to the North Carolina Superior Court. The newly appointed judges, Tessa Sellers and Augustus Willis, have been chosen to serve on the Superior Court in different judicial districts.

Judge Tessa Sellers has been appointed to the Superior Court in Judicial District 43A, which covers Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Macon, and Swain counties. Governor Cooper highlighted her extensive experience by stating, "Judge Tessa Sellers and Gus Willis bring a variety of legal expertise to the Superior Court and they both have served North Carolina and their communities with distinction for many years." Sellers, who currently serves as a District Court Judge in North Carolina's 43rd Judicial District, will be filling the vacancy left by the retirement of the Honorable William H. Coward.

On the other hand, Augustus Willis has been appointed to the Superior Court in Judicial District 4, which includes Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties. Governor Cooper expressed his gratitude for the commitment of both appointees, saying, "I appreciate their willingness to step up and keep working for the people of our state in these new roles." Willis, who currently serves as an Assistant District Attorney in the same counties he will now preside over, will be filling the vacancy left by the retirement of the Honorable Joshua W. Willey.

Tessa Sellers, a graduate of Mars Hill College and Campbell University's Norman A. Wiggins School of Law, has a background that includes serving as an Assistant District Attorney in North Carolina's 30th Prosecutorial District and practicing law privately. Augustus Willis, who holds a Bachelor of Science from East Carolina University and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law, previously worked as a Staff Attorney & Legislative Analyst for the North Carolina General Assembly.

Governor Cooper's appointments of Judge Tessa Sellers and Augustus Willis to the North Carolina Superior Court reflect his commitment to selecting individuals with diverse legal backgrounds and a strong dedication to serving the people of the state.
