Senator Thom Tillis and his colleagues have penned a letter to the United Nations (UN), urging the designation of Iranian-backed Hamas as a terrorist organization. The call comes in response to a series of brutal terrorist attacks on Israel since Oct. 7, with the explicit intent to eradicate Israel and its Jewish population. This initiative by Senator Tillis seeks to tackle ongoing regional issues and protect innocent lives at stake.

Detailing the reasons behind this urgent plea, Senator Thom Tillis and colleagues sent a letter to the United Nations. The main goal was to try and get the UN to start classifying the Iranian-supported group, Hamas, as a terrorist organization, due to the attacks placed on Israel that have been going on since Oct. 7, according to press release on Tillis Senate Gov. Hamas's main goal is to take over and gain power over Israel and the Jewish people in the country.

Moving on from outlining their goals, Tillis wrote in his letter that they are expressing the letter with their "utmost concern" according to Tillis Senate Gov. He quoted in the release "We commend your unequivocal condemnation of Hamas’ terrorism and your support for Israel’s right to defend its people." With the main purpose being an attempt bring about recognition from UN Security Council of imposing sanctions against Hamas.

In continuation of their appeal, Tillis also included in said letter that UN's lack of sanction allows Hamas use humanitarian aid for illicit purposes, according to Tillis Senate Gov. This action consequently denies innocent Palestinian citizens much needed assistance as Hamas diverts this aid towards funding their own cruel operations.
