Wake County Partners with Marbles Kids Museum to Host Free Energy Expo

Parents will have a chance to charge up their children with some hands-on science exploration at the upcoming Wake County Energy Expo hosted at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh. The free event will take place in Marbles courtyard on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at no cost. Advanced ticketing and fees required for entry into the museum.

The Wake County Energy Advisory Commission teamed up with Marbles and leading companies in the energy field to offer families a fun and educational experience. There will be electric cars on display, along with other types of energy-saving transportation. Children can play with water wheels and see a wind turbine simulation and build their own electrical circuits.

“The Wake County Energy Advisory Commission is committed to promote energy conservation and provide educational opportunities to the next generation,” said Wake County Chair Commissioner Sig Hutchinson. “We hope that the expo will spark an interest in children to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. The energy sector is developing rapidly, and it is such an exciting time to be part of it.”

Along with the expo, documentary movies will be showcased at the Marbles IMAX theater as part of the Sustainability Film Fest. The films aim to raise awareness about energy sources and sustainable choices and will influence a difference in our community. A limited number of free tickets to each film are available for pick-up onsite.

The Wake County Energy Advisory Commission was created in 1978 by the Wake County Board of Commissioners and is charged with finding ways to conserve energy in Wake County. For 28 years the Commission has organized the Energy Camp giving children a place to participate in a week’s worth of energy-themed activities. This year, for the first time, the Commission is offering an interactive expo to broaden energy conservation education to all family members.
