City Council Ward Redistricting

In 2022, City Council will consider redistricting to help maintain population balance among the City's three wards.

Federal and state law requires the City to redistrict every ten years following the U.S. census if the data shows that the wards are not substantially equal in population.

About the Ward System

City Council has 7 members: 3 representing specific wards, 3 at-large, and the Mayor. Council members elected to represent a specific ward must live in that ward to provide representation from different areas of the city. However, these candidates are elected by all city voters, and wards do not affect where a resident votes or which candidate(s) a resident can vote for. The next election for City Council ward representatives will take place in November 2025. For more information, see our City Government Guide.
