Senator Vickie Sawyer, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 37th Senate district since her election in 2023, recently used her social media platform to highlight legislative initiatives and observances important to her constituents.

On May 4, Sawyer addressed the challenges faced by young people in foster care regarding transportation access. She stated, “In North Carolina, we talk a lot about opportunity — but for many young people in foster care, even getting to a job or to school can be out of reach without reliable transportation. That’s why I’m proud to sponsor #NCGA Senate Bill 905. This legislation expands access to auto” (May 4, 2026).

Later that week, on May 7, Sawyer discussed property tax reform efforts in the state legislature. She wrote, “This week, the N.C. Senate passed legislation that I was proud to co-sponsor — putting a pause on property tax revaluations as we work on much-needed permanent reforms. This is only the first step in addressing property taxes. The #NCGA will continue working toward a” (May 7, 2026).

On the same day, recognizing the National Day of Prayer, Sawyer encouraged reflection and prayer for various groups within American society: “On this National Day of Prayer, I encourage everyone to take a moment to pray for our country, our military, our law enforcement officers, and the families who keep our communities strong. Faith has always been a foundation of America, and today we proudly recognize its” (May 7, 2026).

Sawyer succeeded Jeff Jackson as senator for North Carolina’s 37th district after winning election in 2023.
