Senator Phil Berger, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 26th Senate district since 2023, has recently used his social media platform to highlight partisan divides on crime and abortion policies in the state.
On October 6, 2025, Berger addressed the actions of Senate Democrats regarding criminal justice legislation, stating, “Some Democrats have recently embraced ‘tough-on-crime’ policies, too, Axios reports.” Not the NC Senate Democrats. None of them voted for Iryna’s Law, and 11 of them staged a walk-out stunt to avoid voting on a bill that holds violent criminals accountable — a bill their own.
The following day, Berger acknowledged organizations supporting anti-abortion efforts in North Carolina. On October 7, 2025, he posted, “I’m thankful for the work of great pro-life groups like Room At The Inn and the Human Coalition to save the lives of the unborn and support mothers across our state. It was an honor to be recognized by them for my efforts to ensure North Carolina fosters a culture of life. As a”.
On October 8, 2025, Berger reiterated his party’s stance on abortion policy, writing, “North Carolina Republicans are fostering a culture of life and compassion. In the #NCGA, we’re fighting for the lives of the unborn while Democrats are pushing for unfettered access to abortion across our state. #ncpol”.
Berger has served in the North Carolina State Senate since 2023, succeeding Dave Craven. He has been an active participant in debates over crime and abortion policy, frequently contrasting Republican initiatives with Democratic opposition or alternatives.
