Sen. Lisa Stone Barnes, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 11th Senate district since 2021, used her Twitter account this week to address issues ranging from rural electric rates to the recognition of nurses and small businesses.

On May 6, Barnes stated: “Every penny our rural neighbors outside Rocky Mount pay into the electric system should go toward electric service, not plugging holes in the city’s budget. This bill delivers the accountability they deserve and the peace of mind they need.”

Recognizing Nurses Week on May 7, she posted: “During Nurses Week, we recognize those who show up with skill, compassion, and care every single day. Thank you for the work you do to keep our families and communities healthy across NC!”

Later that same day, Barnes highlighted National Small Business Month: “May is National Small Business Month and a great reminder to support the businesses that power our local economy. This month and every month, let’s continue to support the entrepreneurs who keep our towns strong.”

Barnes was elected to her seat in 2021 after replacing former state senator Rick Horner. As a member of the North Carolina State Senate, she has consistently focused on issues affecting both urban centers like Rocky Mount and surrounding rural communities.
