North Carolina’s former Governor, Roy Cooper, is set to begin teaching a class at Harvard University. This development takes place amidst ongoing discussions about him potentially running for the U.S. Senate, a role for which some Democrats, including Chuck Schumer, have expressed interest in his candidacy.
Criticism arises from Cooper’s association with the university, with negative comments about the institution’s purported issues. Some North Carolinians question Cooper’s suitability for a senatorial run.
Matt Mercer, the Communications Director for the North Carolina Republican Party, criticized Cooper’s past performance: “When North Carolinians needed Roy Cooper to step up and defend them, he failed. He failed to stop violent crime and mobs from burning cities in 2020. He failed women in our state allowing our rape kit backlog to be the largest in the nation. And, he failed families across our state who wanted their homes rebuilt after natural disasters. Now, Cooper is jetting off to Massachusetts for a paycheck to rebrand his failures as ‘leadership.’ Good riddance because North Carolina is done letting Roy Cooper fail our state.”
