Roy Cooper’s record on transgender issues has become a focus in his campaign for the U.S. Senate. According to a recent statement, Cooper has supported policies that allow transgender individuals to use bathrooms and participate in sports consistent with their gender identity, as well as permitting minors to access gender-affirming surgeries.

The Washington Post recently covered Cooper’s campaign but did not include his views on these issues. Critics argue that this omission avoids addressing one of Cooper’s significant policy positions.

The statement highlights an incident involving Payton McNabb, who was injured during a high school girls’ volleyball game by a transgender athlete. It claims that Cooper did not engage with McNabb about her experience.

Cooper is also criticized for encouraging business boycotts of North Carolina in response to legislation related to transgender rights nearly ten years ago. The statement suggests that media outlets have not questioned him about this decision.

“Radical Roy Cooper continues to fight for they/them while opposing hard-working North Carolina families. He failed to make North Carolina safer as Governor and his woke policies would make life harder for Americans,” said NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer.
