Roy Cooper, who has had a long career in politics, has supported sanctuary policies for undocumented immigrants. During his time in office, Cooper did not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requests and allowed individuals without legal status to be released from jail rather than honoring ICE detainers.

Critics argue that these actions have resulted in criminal undocumented immigrants being released into communities. According to statements made by the North Carolina Republican Party, “Under Cooper’s watch, he allowed criminal illegals to be released from jail and refusing to honor ICE detailers.”

The party further claims: “The Cooper Record? Enabling dangerous criminals to roam our communities.”
