Rep. Kelly Hastings, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 110th House district since 2011, addressed several topics on social media this week, including immigration policy and recent interactions with constituents.
On August 21, Hastings clarified remarks he had made regarding federal law and immigration in North Carolina. He stated, “To clarify, my comment about ‘crazy stuff’ had to do with an obscure comment that said we are overriding federal law and allowing illegal immigration/migration in North Carolina. We are fighting to stop illegal immigration/migration. Sorry for any confusion. KH” (August 21, 2025).
The following day, Hastings shared his appreciation for local agriculture after attending a community event. On August 22, he posted, “Thankful to be able to meet w/ some great farmers at the @clevelandcounty Farm Bureau Summer Picnic. #GotToBeNC #ncpol”.
Later that same day, Hastings responded to accusations regarding his legislative voting record on professional licensing for non-citizens in North Carolina. He wrote, “People who I don’t know accused me of voting to allow ‘illegal aliens’ to practice medicine in N.C. It’s my duty to get the truth to you. Some key language of the bill is as follows: ‘9) The applicant is legally authorized to work in the United States.’ Respectfully, Kelly” (August 22, 2025).
Hastings has served as a member of the North Carolina State House since 2011 after succeeding Pearl Burris-Floyd.
