Rep. Brenden Jones, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 46th House district since 2017, has raised concerns on social media regarding the content of books available in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) elementary libraries.
Continuing his review of school library materials, Jones wrote on March 26, 2026: “Day 2 of reviewing CHCCS’s libraries: my team found I Am Max, a book that claims babies can be transgender and teaches children how they can change their name at school without notifying their parents. This book is available at McDougle and Morris Grove Elementary. #ncpol https://t.co/pqG6w9GF2o”
On March 27, 2026, Jones further stated: “Day 3 of researching CHCCS’ elementary library’s, and my staff found “’Twas the Night Before Pride,” a book that’s as dumb as it sounds. The most concerning aspect of the book is it actively promotes bringing babies to Pride parades. #ncpol https://t.co/G5RutozEiL”
Jones was elected to the North Carolina State House in 2017 to represent the state’s 46th House district after replacing Ken Waddell.
