Rep. Brenden Jones, a Republican representing North Carolina’s 46th House district since 2017, has publicly criticized Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), alleging noncompliance with state law and questioning the actions of school officials.

On December 8, 2025, Jones wrote: “Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools has launched a full-blown indoctrination campaign in their elementary schools.

On Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee will hear them defend their legal “theories” as to why they can openly violate state law. #ncpol https://t.co/NsdWXSr60J

The following day, December 9, he continued his criticism by posting: “Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools is going to pretend that they’re in compliance with State law.

It’s too bad we have a video of their School Boards Chair George Griffin recommending that they don’t comply with SB 49.

See you tomorrow George. #ncpol https://t.co/VWItpRZiKB

On December 10, Jones questioned statements made by the school board chair: “All meeting, George Griffin claimed that as of January 18th, Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools was in full compliance with state law

So why did he send an email on Feb. 12th saying the exact opposite?

Was he perjuring himself then, or is he doing it now? #ncpol https://t.co/sop0gzX01S

Jones’ remarks reference ongoing debates about SB 49 and whether local school districts are adhering to its requirements. As a member of the North Carolina State House since replacing Ken Waddell in 2017, Jones has been active in education policy discussions within the state legislature.
