Rep. Brenden Jones, a Republican member of the North Carolina State House representing the 46th district since 2017, has posted several statements on his social media platform regarding parental involvement and school oversight in Chapel Hill–Carrboro Schools.

On December 11, 2025, Jones commented on the handling of certain books recommended by Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS), stating: “This is how we should handle these “books” recommend by CHCCS”.

The following day, December 12, 2025, Jones emphasized the importance of parental rights in educational matters. He wrote: “Parental involvement isn’t negotiable. Why? Because a parent should never discover her child’s name being changed only after it appeared on their diploma. That’s who we’re fighting to protect. #ncpol #sb49”.

Later that same day, he addressed compliance measures involving SB 49 and local schools: “House Oversight has formally notified Chapel Hill–Carrboro Schools that beginning in January, they must provide monthly documentation demonstrating full and ongoing compliance with SB 49. #ncpol”.

SB 49 refers to legislation concerning parental rights in education within North Carolina. Jones succeeded Ken Waddell when he was elected to the North Carolina State House in 2017 to represent the state’s 46th House district.
