Raleigh, North Carolina, has become a focal point for national governing body events this fall, hosting three significant gatherings that highlight the evolving sports landscape. These events emphasize innovative formats, governance, and inclusivity for athletes of all abilities.
From October 17-19, the Raleigh Convention Center was the venue for the Southeast Regional Boccia Tournament. This USA Boccia Level 3 Sanctioned Regional Tournament marked a milestone as the first of its kind in the Southeast. Originally designed for individuals with cerebral palsy, boccia is now a Paralympic sport open to those with motor skill disabilities. The tournament included a pre-assessment process for athletes not yet classified in the USA Boccia system.
On October 24, USA Climbing hosted an athlete meet-and-greet at Triangle Rock Club – Salvage Yard. Attendees had the opportunity to meet Emma Hunt, Sophie Curcio, and Nekaia Sanders. The event coincided with USA Climbing’s board meeting at Ponysaurus Brewing Co., where discussions on the sport’s future took place.
USA Baseball concluded Raleigh’s series of events with two major esports tournaments at N.C. State Gaming and Esports Lab on Centennial Campus. The WBSC eBaseball Series began online with U.S. finals from August 21 to September 27 and ended with an in-person Super Round and Finals on November 8-9.
