North Carolina has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report for its economic performance, ranking #7 in the Best Economy category and #5 in Best Growth across the United States. The rankings assess all 50 states based on various criteria, including health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime and corrections, and natural environment. Overall, North Carolina improved its position to #13 from #19 in 2024.
Governor Josh Stein commented on the recognition: “We have long known that North Carolina is a top state to live, work, and raise a family,” adding his pride in the state’s efforts to enhance its economy. He emphasized the importance of continued investment in public education, health care, infrastructure, public safety, and workforce development to maintain North Carolina’s competitive edge.
