Governor Josh Stein has announced that North Carolina is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Khari Ikeem Shytez Wilkes. Wilkes, 28, was killed in Cabarrus County earlier this year.

“We must use every tool at our disposal to pursue justice for victims,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I urge North Carolinians who have information about these cases to contact local law enforcement and help us provide closure to victims’ families.”

The incident occurred on January 6, 2025, when officers responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound on Pine Hill Lane in Kannapolis. Wilkes died later that evening from his injuries. According to authorities, he was sitting in his white 2021 Dodge Challenger when two assailants approached from behind.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Kannapolis Police Department at (704) 920-4000 or the State Bureau of Investigation at (919) 662-4500.
