Attorney General Jeff Jackson has played a significant role in the protection of North Carolinians’ genetic data amid the bankruptcy proceedings of 23andMe. In June, Attorney General Jackson initiated legal action against 23andMe to prevent the sale of genetic data to for-profit entities. The court has now sanctioned the transfer of 23andMe’s assets, which includes the genetic information of over 15 million individuals, to TTAM Research Institute.
Attorney General Jackson has also secured an agreement with TTAM that mandates additional protective measures concerning the use and distribution of customers’ genetic data.
