This week, Democratic Party members, facing approval ratings reportedly below 30%, are set to hold a “People’s Town Hall” in North Carolina. The event’s location has been marked as private, but it is anticipated that media coverage will be prevalent, with notable figures such as Chris Murphy and Maxwell Frost in attendance.

Criticism has emerged, claiming Democrats prioritize illegal immigrants over local families. The NCGOP raises several pointed questions regarding Democrats’ positions. They reference statements by Senator Chris Murphy, who, in May 2024, commented on the safety of neighborhoods with high immigrant populations: “So, if you want a safe town or a safe neighborhood, you’re better off — you are statistically safer if you have immigrants because they commit crimes of violence at a rate lower than people who are born in the United States.”

Other questions include inquiries on Democratic support for federal actions concerning illegal aliens facing charges in North Carolina, their response to the murder of a Wake County Deputy and K9 officer by an illegal immigrant in 2022, and their stance on preventing crimes by illegal immigrant offenders.

Matt Mercer, NCGOP Communications Director, criticizes the Democratic stance, asserting: “Democrats have chosen to oppose President Trump and common sense leadership. Desperate to resist, they’ve elevated the cause of illegal alien criminals and threats to American families. This posturing is out of touch with reality. They are captive to a fringe far-left few and have failed to even participate in solving the problems in our country.”

The debate highlights a division over immigration policy and public safety, with implications for both parties as they contend with these issues.
