Mike Schietzelt, recently elected Republican representative for North Carolina’s 35th House district, has used his social media platform to share both personal anecdotes and policy positions in recent days.
On August 9, 2025, Schietzelt posted a lighthearted account of a past holiday gift from his wife: “My wife got me one of the two packs for Christmas a number of years ago. A whole pound of peanut butter cups. I ate both within a couple hours of each other and had about the worst case of cold sweats I’ve ever experienced. 10/10 would do it again.”
The following day, Schietzelt turned to public policy concerns regarding proposed tolls on US-1. On August 10, he wrote: “People built their homes, their businesses, and their lives around US-1 for more than a century. Slapping a toll on US-1 today would be a huge bait-and-switch.”
In another post that same day, he expressed appreciation for others drawing attention to the issue while clarifying his stance on infrastructure funding: “I appreciate @andrew_dunn calling more attention to this issue, and I appreciate @gachesser’s leadership. Tolls may be part of our long-term infrastructure solution, but I draw the line on tolling existing facilities. Our families, our workers, and our businesses deserve better.”
Schietzelt was elected in 2025 as the Republican representative for North Carolina’s 35th House district after succeeding Terence Everitt.
