Mike Schietzelt, a Republican elected in 2025 to represent North Carolina’s 35th House district, has used his social media platform to discuss education policy and teacher pay in the state.

On December 4, 2025, Schietzelt posted: “Buckle up, Roy! And remember: ‘Schietzelt’ rhymes with ‘Seatbelt.”

The following day, on December 5, he addressed the issue of teacher compensation. He wrote: “Too many of my friends and mentors are former teachers. I’m fighting to raise teacher pay to recruit and retain quality educators—because that’s what our kids deserve.”

Later that same day, Schietzelt commented on legislative actions related to education funding: “Almost half of your caucus voted against a budget that would have raised starting teacher pay to $50k. Sit this one out.”

Schietzelt was elected in 2025 after defeating Terence Everitt and now represents North Carolina’s 35th House district as a member of the Republican Party.
