Mike Schietzelt, a Republican recently elected to the North Carolina State House representing the 35th district, has taken to social media to comment on legislative developments and redistricting practices in the state.
On July 29, 2025, Schietzelt posted about recent legislation: “This is an important bill that shields North Carolinians’ rights under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. I’m thrilled to see this one get over the finish line.”
Two days later, on July 31, 2025, Schietzelt addressed concerns regarding gerrymandering in congressional districts. He wrote: “My God, he’s right. Look at the surgical precision of the gerrymandering here.” In a subsequent post made on the same day, he elaborated: ‘”They took a Trump +42 state and drew the lines so Republicans won BOTH congressional districts by 40 points!” Honestly, it would require an impressive gerrymander to make one of those seats remotely competitive. A gerrymander like this one.’
Schietzelt was elected in 2025 to replace Terence Everitt as representative for North Carolina’s 35th House district.
