Mike Schietzelt, a Republican recently elected to the North Carolina State House representing the 35th district, addressed ongoing debates regarding allegations against fellow legislators in a series of posts on August 16, 2025.
In his first post, Schietzelt responded to rumors about dishonesty among colleagues: “Which brings us to the debate that’s playing out now. Someone has put into the ether that @timreedernc and @CampbellforNC lied to their House colleagues to get this bill passed. If that allegation came from a House member, it’s ludicrous.” (August 16, 2025).
He continued by expressing support for Dr. Reeder and Dr. Campbell: “Dr. Reeder and Dr. Campbell are tremendous assets to the House caucus, bringing specialized knowledge about their fields that the rest of us don’t have. We may not always agree on every issue, but it is undeniable that both of them make our House caucus stronger.” (August 16, 2025).
Schietzelt also emphasized individual responsibility among lawmakers: “More importantly, each member of the House was elected by our district to represent them. That means doing your own due diligence before a vote. We have ample opportunities to ask our colleagues questions about legislation. In private. In the caucus. On the floor.” (August 16, 2025).
Schietzelt began serving in the North Carolina State House in 2025 after succeeding Terence Everitt as representative for District 35.
