Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland has recently highlighted several community initiatives and advocacy efforts in a series of posts on her social media account. The tweets, published between August 19 and August 21, 2025, address youth engagement, immigrant contributions, and support for senior citizens.
On August 19, Strickland announced the launch of a youth program in her district: “The Congressional Award Challenge is coming to the #SouthSound! This is an opportunity for ages 14-24 to earn Congress’ highest honor and get involved in their communities at home.

The following day, she addressed the role of immigrants in American society: “Our nation is stronger because of immigrants and their contributions to our communities.
It was good to join @TCH1910 and hear from students about their journeys to becoming US citizens. https://t.co/ItHS7rr97N” (August 20).
On National Senior Day, August 21, Strickland posted about ongoing efforts for older Americans: “On #NationalSeniorDay we remember to do the work for the older Americans who still serve our communities as veterans, business owners, and leaders.
From improving their quality of life to protecting access to #SocialSecurity, I will always fight for seniors across the nation. https://t.co/ys6TBiKjIf“
Marilyn Strickland was elected in 2017 to represent North Carolina’s 28th House district after succeeding James Langdon, Jr. Although her recent posts focus on her work as a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s South Sound region, her political career began at the state level as a Republican legislator.
