Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland has recently highlighted her engagements with veterans, housing developers, and local farmers in a series of posts on social media. The posts, published between August 10 and August 12, 2025, detail her meetings and visits within the South Sound region.
On August 10, Strickland posted about her meeting with the National Association for Black Veterans. She wrote, “Those who have served our country deserve our support. I appreciate meeting with the National Association for Black Veterans and sharing how the federal government can and must do better to ensure our veterans get the benefits they’ve earned.”
The following day, she addressed efforts to address housing needs in the area. In an August 11 post, Strickland stated, “Black developers like 1Drop are building the housing that the #SouthSound needs, including bringing over 60 senior housing units to the @CityofLakewood and more. As we fight the housing crunch at home, our local, state, and federal partnerships remain crucial to supporting”.
On August 12, Strickland visited Sterino Farms and commented on its longstanding role in serving local communities. She posted: “Visited Sterino Farms and got to rep Mount Tahoma! A multi-generational farm, Sterino Farms has served the @PuyallupGov and @PierceCo communities for years. In the face of growing uncertainty, we must continue supporting our local producers and farmers. #SouthSoundGrown”
While Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland currently represents Washington’s South Sound region in Congress as a Democrat (noted by recent reporting), it is worth mentioning that another politician named Strickland was elected as a Republican to North Carolina’s State House in 2017 for District 28.
