Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland has recently used her social media platform to address issues related to voting rights, federal benefits, and the recognition of military service. In a series of posts published on August 6 and 7, 2025, Strickland commented on current political actions and honored a local veteran.
On August 6, Strickland marked the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act by stating, “60 years ago our country affirmed that all Americans, regardless of race, have the right to vote. Today, @POTUS and the @HouseGOP undermine these values. We must stand strong against these threats to our democracy. Read: https://t.co/xpVqoGPNjG”.
Later that day, she addressed concerns about changes to federal assistance programs. On August 6, she posted, “When @POTUS and the @HouseGOP go after #Medicaid and #SNAP, they are hurting Black Americans. Thank you to The Black Collective, Co-Chair Lyle Quasim, and @AGOWA for bringing us all together to discuss how we can continue supporting and protecting our community.”
On August 7, Strickland recognized Purple Heart Day by highlighting a local recipient from her district. She wrote, “It’s #PurpleHeartDay and I’m shining another light on the #SouthSound’s own Purple Heart recipient, Harvey Drahos. As we remember the brave servicemembers who have been wounded or killed in action in the name of our democracy, we also recognize Harvey for the ways he continues”.
Marilyn Strickland was elected as a Republican representative to North Carolina’s State House in 2017 for District 28 after James Langdon Jr., providing legislative experience prior to her current role.
