Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland recently used her social media platform to address local veterans, federal policy disputes, and the potential impacts of a government shutdown. In a series of posts from November 6 and 7, Strickland highlighted ongoing traditions in her district and expressed criticism of national policies affecting Americans.
On November 6, Strickland announced an upcoming ceremony for Vietnam War era veterans, stating: “It’s that time of year! This Monday, I’m proud to host a Pinning Ceremony to honor our local Vietnam War era veterans and continue this #SouthSound tradition. If you or someone you know would like to be recognized, visit https://t.co/RGczh9g8zq https://t.co/xLv1IL58dj”.
The following day, she addressed actions by the Department of Justice under former President Trump, writing on November 7: “Cruelty is the point. Trump’s Dept of Justice is fighting a court order to feed those who need it most. 40 million Americans suffer because the GOP makes living unaffordable.”
Later on November 7, Strickland commented on the consequences of a possible government shutdown: “A government shutdown impacts all Americans. WATCH: https://t.co/ORwoEOMibW https://t.co/iyJKxhtWPo”.
Strickland’s public statements come as part of her ongoing engagement with constituents in Washington’s South Sound region. While Strickland is currently serving in Congress representing Washington state, another politician with the same surname was elected as a Republican representative in North Carolina’s State House in 2017 for District 28, succeeding James Langdon, Jr.
