Representative Kelly Hastings, a Republican serving North Carolina’s 110th House district since 2011, posted several updates on social media regarding recent legislative actions in the state. On August 19, 2025, Hastings wrote “No dice! https://t.co/mvb52suInh”.
The following day, Hastings addressed the North Carolina General Assembly’s decision to override Governor Stein’s veto of Speaker Hall’s HB 318. In his post dated August 20, 2025, he stated: “2025 Update – N.C. General Assembly Overrides Stein’s Veto of Speaker Hall’s HB 318: The law requires sheriffs to cooperate with ICE to remove those illegally in our state who commit serious crimes. I voted to override the veto. #ncpol”.
Later that morning, Hastings commented on the legislative process and voting outcomes related to HB 318. He posted on August 20, 2025: “If I am not mistaken, there were no votes against the final version in the House or Senate of North Carolina, & Speaker Hall participated in the ratification. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the bill, & two licensed physicians voted for the final version of the bill. https://t.co/6HtgdyFZWT”.
HB 318 mandates that county sheriffs in North Carolina collaborate with federal immigration authorities (ICE) when dealing with individuals found to be residing illegally in the state and who have committed serious crimes. The bill became law after legislators overrode a gubernatorial veto from Governor Stein.
Hastings has represented his district since replacing Pearl Burris-Floyd in 2011.
