Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin has been selected for Team USA’s men’s ice hockey roster at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The announcement was made by Team USA General Manager Bill Guerin.
Slavin, who is 31 years old, has played in five games with the Carolina Hurricanes this season and missed 34 games due to injury. He has recorded 299 points, including 55 goals and 244 assists, over 750 NHL games with the Hurricanes. Slavin holds several franchise records among defensemen, including most points, assists, and shorthanded points (18). He also shares the lead in shorthanded goals (4) and overtime goals (3) for Hurricanes defensemen. As an alternate captain for Carolina, he has added 40 points in 86 career playoff games and holds postseason franchise records among defensemen for games played, goals, assists, and points.
Slavin is a two-time recipient of the NHL’s Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (2020-21, 2023-24). Since the start of the 2015-16 season, he leads all NHL blueliners in takeaways (704), is tied for most shorthanded points (18), and ranks sixth in plus/minus (+165). His total takeaways rank second overall in the league during that period. He was drafted by Carolina in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
