The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenseman K’Andre Miller to an eight-year contract, marking a significant move in their offseason strategy. The deal secures Miller, previously a restricted free agent with the New York Rangers, as part of the team’s core group through the 2032-33 season. This addition aligns with the Hurricanes’ plans to enhance their roster using their $26 million cap space.
General Manager Eric Tulsky expressed enthusiasm about Miller’s potential impact on the team: “He’s a really powerful skater who can close out really effectively, and take away time and space. The aggressive way we play is going to suit him very well.” Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour echoed these sentiments at Invisalign Arena, noting Miller’s mobility and potential for further growth.
Miller brings 368 NHL games of experience to Raleigh, including participation in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff games over six seasons. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 209 lbs., his size and speed are expected to complement the Hurricanes’ fast-paced playing style.
Tulsky highlighted Miller’s skating ability as a key asset: “I think his skating and recovery speed is going to be really effective for us. When we want guys to get up the ice, they need to be able to get back, too.”
Miller has played against Carolina 27 times in his career and is familiar with their style of play. He looks forward to joining the team: “They have such a fast team. They get up and down the ice in a fast motion, and they do everything as a team.”
To acquire Miller, the Hurricanes traded prospect Scott Morrow along with first and second-round picks in the 2026 draft. Tulsky acknowledged this as a significant price but emphasized its value for their Stanley Cup aspirations next June: “It’s a big price to pay, but we think (K’Andre Miller) is a great fit for us.”
Brind’Amour added that Miller’s attributes will strengthen both defensive capabilities and offensive potential: “He’s big, can skate, takes up space… I think there’s an offensive touch there.”
