The Carolina Hurricanes secured a win in the first game of their series against the Washington Capitals and are now preparing for Game 2, set to take place on Thursday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast on ESPN and SN, TVAS in Canada.
In Game 1, Jaccob Slavin was instrumental for the Hurricanes, scoring the winning goal in overtime. Logan Stankoven also contributed significantly by scoring his third postseason goal, which is leading among rookies this playoff season. Both he and Jackson Blake have been crucial for Carolina’s offensive efforts.
Slavin has shown consistent performance with points in three consecutive games and continues to lead franchise defensemen in playoff scoring with a total of 40 points.
Frederik Andersen returned as goaltender after an injury earlier in the playoffs and performed well by stopping 13 out of 14 shots. He currently leads the league in goals-against average (GAA) and save percentage during these playoffs.
Washington Capitals’ coach Spencer Carbery expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance in Game 1 due to their low shot count and costly turnovers. Despite this, goaltender Logan Thompson had a strong showing with a .926 save percentage this postseason.
Aliaksei Protas scored his first career playoff goal for Washington but will need continued contributions as they aim to improve their play in Game 2.
Carolina will continue wearing their white uniforms throughout the postseason as they travel back home following Thursday’s game for practice before hosting Game 3 on Saturday at Lenovo Center.
Jesper Fast remains out for the season due to injury while Mark Jankowski’s status remains uncertain after leaving Tuesday’s game early; however, Coach Rod Brind’Amour mentioned that Jankowski is “definitely better” and could play tonight.
