The Carolina Hurricanes secured a significant advantage over the Washington Capitals, taking a 3-1 lead in their series following Monday’s game. The expectation was for a long battle between the two teams, and if Washington intends to extend its season, it must prove that prediction correct. However, Carolina has built its lead through contributions from across the lineup rather than relying on individual performances.
Twelve of Carolina’s 18 skaters recorded points during the game, highlighting the team’s depth and cohesion under coach Rod Brind’Amour. “There’s no panic when things don’t go our way,” said Brind’Amour. He credited both experienced players and those newer to playoff intensity for maintaining composure during challenging moments.
Frederik Andersen played a crucial role in the victory with several key saves early in the game. His performance provided confidence to his teammates, allowing them to play more aggressively. Sean Walker praised Andersen post-game: “It’s so apparent, the confidence he’s giving us.”
Andersen’s ability to remain focused even during periods of inactivity was noted by Brind’Amour: “He’s done a nice job of always seemingly staying ready.” This readiness helped stabilize the team when necessary.
Walker also received recognition for his strong defensive play and multi-point contribution in Game 4. Teammate Dmitry Orlov described him as an ideal fit for the team due to his skills on both ends of the ice.
Before Monday’s game began, fans were surprised by Alexander Nikishin joining warmups with the team. Although not yet making his debut, it’s seen as progress towards integrating him into future games. Brind’Amour explained that having Nikishin join pregame routines keeps him prepared should he be needed.
Jalen Chatfield is expected to recover from minor injuries sustained in previous games and will likely participate in Thursday’s Game 5 against Washington.
