The Carolina Hurricanes faced a challenging defeat against the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final, losing 6-2. The game took place on Saturday in Sunrise, Florida.
The Hurricanes were behind after the first period due to an early goal by Florida. Logan Stankoven managed to equalize for Carolina late in the second period with a power-play goal. However, the third period saw Florida score five goals, including four within just over four minutes, effectively ending Carolina’s hopes for a comeback. Seth Jarvis added another power-play goal for Carolina midway through the final period.
Pyotr Kochetkov was in goal for his first career Conference Final appearance and stopped 22 of 28 shots.
Logan Stankoven made history as the first rookie since 1994 to record points in both conference finals and became one of three rookies in franchise history to score four goals in a single postseason.
Carolina played without defenseman Jalen Chatfield due to injury and also missed Sean Walker who was injured during Game 2. Rookies Scott Morrow and Alexander Nikishin filled their spots on defense.
Head coach Rod Brind’Amour commented on turnovers being costly: “I think we were there, obviously, we were playing better… you turn it over for an odd-man rush? Forget it.”
Jordan Staal mentioned missed opportunities: “There’s been some bad timing… but we have to also work for those.”
Sebastian Aho spoke about future games: “Obviously, we’ll go over tomorrow what we did good, what we did bad… No tomorrow mentality and go from there.”
The Hurricanes will not practice on Sunday but will play Game 4 at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday.
