The Carolina Hurricanes faced a setback in their 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs campaign, losing 5-2 to the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final. The game took place on Tuesday at home, marking their first loss on home ice this postseason.

Carolina started strong, applying pressure early but failing to capitalize on a power play. The Panthers took advantage and scored first at 8:30 into the game. Aaron Ekblad then extended Florida’s lead after a turnover by the Hurricanes.

Despite these setbacks, Carolina responded with a goal just before the end of the first period. Sebastian Aho redirected Seth Jarvis’ pass through Sergei Bobrovsky’s legs, cutting the deficit to one as they entered the second period.

However, Florida quickly widened their lead again in the second period and added two more goals in the third, establishing a commanding 5-1 advantage. Jackson Blake scored late for Carolina during a power play, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

Frederik Andersen faced challenges in goal for Carolina, stopping only 15 of 20 shots. This marked his first time allowing more than two goals in regulation during this postseason.

Seth Jarvis recorded two assists, extending his point streak to five games with two goals and five assists. Andrei Svechnikov also contributed an assist, matching his career-high playoff streak of four games.

Scott Morrow made his playoff debut for Carolina in this match, becoming only the second player in franchise history to do so during a Conference Final since Patrick Dwyer in 2009. Logan Stankoven joined Ville Leino as players who have appeared in both Conference Finals while still under rookie status.

Carolina’s head coach Rod Brind’Amour commented on the game: “They got the two power-play goals; I think that’s really the difference… It takes a couple off the board there; maybe then the game’s a little different.”

Team captain Jordan Staal noted: “We have to be better… We’ve got to limit those mistakes and keep creating chances.”

Seth Jarvis added: “The power play’s got to execute earlier… But sometimes it just doesn’t go your way.”

Shayne Gostisbehere mentioned potential positives from Game 1: “A couple more bounces and it could have been a different game.”

The Hurricanes will skip practice on Wednesday ahead of Game 2 against Florida scheduled for Thursday night at Lenovo Center.
