The Carolina Hurricanes faced a challenging game against the Florida Panthers, losing 5-0 in Game 2 of the 2025 Eastern Conference Final. The match took place in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the Hurricanes struggled to keep up with their opponents from the outset.

Florida scored just over a minute into the game and added two more goals before the end of the first period. The Hurricanes’ Sebastian Aho appeared to score early in the second period, but his goal was disallowed after a review determined an offside play. Florida extended their lead with Sam Bennett scoring his second goal of the night late in the second period and Aleksander Barkov adding another in the third.

Carolina’s goaltender Frederik Andersen saved 12 out of 16 shots before being replaced by Pyotr Kochetkov, who made three saves on four shots. Defenseman Jalen Chatfield missed his third consecutive game due to injury, while Scott Morrow played for a second straight game.

This loss marked Carolina’s first back-to-back defeats during this year’s playoffs and their first playoff shutout since facing Florida two years ago. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour commented on the team’s performance: “Obviously, we’ve got to just figure out how to win a period… The margin here is so tight.”

Team captain Jordan Staal reflected on the game: “No, not really. It was pretty much an ass-whooping… We got behind and it kind of got worse.” Taylor Hall expressed belief in their ability to compete: “They’re not a perfect hockey team… We have to play our game.” Andrei Svechnikov remained optimistic: “[We have] good confidence. It’s 2-0, still, you know? This is nothing.”

The Hurricanes plan to practice and travel to Florida on Friday for Game 3 at Amerant Bank Arena scheduled for Saturday evening.
